You are so right-kids can make a ton of money in the summer here, especially if they are willing to put in the time. Lifeguard pay in OP is $14/hour and I think pool operator starts at $15. So both are above current minimum wage but below a lot of other options in the area. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: “Even with the lifeguard pay increase for this year, it's quite a bit less than kids are making between hourly pay/tips that they earn at restaurants. My 16 year old would be taking about a $4/hour pay cut to become a lifeguard.” Exactly this. A sixteen year old kid can make several hundred dollars’ cash working as a busser or barback per shift, plus a paycheck. I don’t know what OP offers to lifeguard, but it clearly isn’t in the realm of “competitive.” |
