OPA can pay whatever is needed to obtain lifeguards so long as pool fees cover the cost of operations. The problem, of course, is pool users do not want to pay those higher fees. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: “Even with the lifeguard pay increase for this year, it's quite a bit less than kids are making between hourly pay/tips that they earn at restaurants. My 16 year old would be taking about a $4/hour pay cut to become a lifeguard.” Exactly this. A sixteen year old kid can make several hundred dollars’ cash working as a busser or barback per shift, plus a paycheck. I don’t know what OP offers to lifeguard, but it clearly isn’t in the realm of “competitive.” |
