I have no idea how much income would increase by charging those not owning or renting in OP an additional $5. I suspect it would not come close to whatever it takes to get lifeguards. From Dispatch: An Ocean City lifeguard typically works 43.5 hours a week during the season at $18.45 an hour, resulting in a gross weekly pay of $802. Currently for every additional hour beyond the 43.5-hour mark lifeguards get a boosted hourly rate of $18.82/hour. As an overtime bump, the city proposed the hourly rate jump one dollar for any additional hour worked in a week. In an effort to address the post-Labor Day staffing crunch, the city is proposing a $250 bonus if a guard works 80 hours in September. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I should specifiy I was agreeing more with his first statement: "It's not a shortage of lifeguards but an unwillingness to pay" I think that OPA should pay more to attract lifeguards as $14 an hour just isn't competitive. But that is just my opinion. And how you go about paying more, I don't know. Not my job to figure out. I would also agree with showing IDs to get the resident rate, especially if that is policy at the golf course. Never once have I had to show that at any of the pools, although some have said they had different experiences. |
