last summer there was actually OPPD sitting IFO the mumfords pool watching the stop sign at the YC exit and he took off after someone who exited the lot . . . she got a ticket for the stop sign and then went thru the dui grillin'. the very next night a friend who just got into town dropped off some bagels at my house (it's a Brooklyn thing) and when he left he got pulled over by a cop who was watching the stop sign at carrollton lane and mumfords landing road, a corner that every car leaving the yc has to pass thru. he obviously assumed that my friend had left the yc, and my friend 'agreed' to submit to the field test.
when I mentioned the absurdity of our police staking out YC patrons looking for an excuse to make a pretext stop to BT (at a townhall) I was lectured on how "no one drives drunk in ocean pines" . . . I tried to explain neither one of my friends was drinking but were subjected to the routine anyways, and he moved on to the next question. and just this Saturday night as I walked my dog there was a police car sitting on yacht club drive, as folks exited a banquet function. just wait and see what happens to our catering biz when the word spreads that guests are being pulled over after an affair. steve lind |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Through residential streets patrolled by the local police department. Clubs of all types have declined in popularity for at least 20 years because of MADD and DUI convictions. Military Officer and NCO clubs have been forced to merge for pretty much the same reason. But somehow, that never factored into the thinking. Pretty obvious at the time. |
