John,
I could not agree more. I really don't know who the facility is trying to attract anymore. When my family first came here 9 years ago, the food was great, the crowd was sociable, and it was an inviting place to come to, despite the 30+ year old building. Now, the prices have gone up, the quality of food has gone down, and it is not at all welcoming when you come inside. I feel like we have to whisper at our table, because every sound echoes off the solid surfaces, and my children, being children, appear to annoy everyone around us by just carrying on normal conversations. Outside, the building blocks the acoustics from the music when sitting at the tables, somehow I can hear the music just as well at my home in Teal Bay as if I would be sitting at a patio table. If I want to listen to music with the family, it is pretty much hanging on the open patio space, and that's it. Family dining there has turned into coming over after a dinner at home to let the kids sit around the fire pit and listen to music, in which case, we aren't spending money. I try hard to support all the Ocean Pines amenities, but the new YC just doesn't have the family appeal anymore. Maybe it is just a banquet hall, but if that's the case, it shouldn't be our expense as a HOA to run a banquet facility for others to use. The sad thing is the building is too nice for Bar Rescue to look at. As a candidate, I want to see all management put into the hands of competent parties that can run the each entity profitably, regardless of whether they are outsourced operators or employees. There is no reason that we should be losing money on assets that are profitable for others in surrounding areas - golf, restaurant, etc. Brett |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Brett, I believe that the YC has an identity crisis. What is it? A banquet hall? A place for seniors to hang out until 8 on a weekend? A family restaurant? A place where people go to listen to music with no cover? I have been saying since I have been coming to OP(2001) that the association should not be in the restaurant business and that the place should be leased out and run by someone who has experience in the restaurant business. An establishment that pays no rent should not incur consistent loses. I'm sure that there are many satisfied patrons and I know that you generally hear more complaints than praises, but the management has turned off many customers who truly want to support "our yacht club." This is how a place gets a bad reputation. I think the place is a perfect restaurant for the TV show "Bar Rescue!" I hope all of the candidates in the upcoming election will look at the possibility of turning the operations over to a competent restaurant operator, one who will make us proud of our facility.
