Joe,
Here is were we are going to disagree. I do not have any children of that age group so I have no dog in this fight personally. However, when I drive around Ocean Parkway between 3:30 and 4:00 it takes forever because of the school buses. Also, I have a lot of friends that have children and grandchildren that would like nothing better on the weekend than to not go across that bridge to take there families to lunch or dinner. There are quite a few successful restaurateurs in Ocean City that swear by them as a way to bring in families. Shawn Harmon at Fishtales just spent quite a bit of money having a new area built an he is one of the most profitable owners per square foot in Ocean City. Obviously at 2:00 on a Monday I am sure it wasn't to crowded but feel free to look at it at noon on Saturday If done correctly it wouldn't take away form the incredible "ambiance" of the Yacht Club and I am sure would add to the bottom line of our "amenity". If you would like I will meet you there next Wednesday for family fun night and we can ask some of the parents and grandparents their opinions. I would think Brett would already be there so he could join in the discussion! Lastly, you might remember a discussion on this forum some time back about people who come to the yacht club and sit at a table and drink water or one drink all night and as long as that happens we will never make any money. Well these families ain't them, they spend money and bring friends with kids that spend more money The best part the kids are usually home in bed before 9:00 Tom J. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm surprised by your comment . . . mr hill is making his comment strictly from a business perspective. to compare his comments to the food truck fiasco is simply not accurate. Tearing up the patio at the Yacht Club and installing a playground so kids can play while a family waits for a table, or while parents grab a drink at the bar, or while parents finish dinner is a terrible idea and will not contribute to the Yacht Club bottom line. Reminds me somewhat of the Thompson "crab pit." That never contributed a nickle to the bottom line but did manage to deposit sand across the YC inside floor. I know that you (joe) are not in that camp - - or at least I hope that you are not. so let's not belittle candidates whose views are obviously at odds with the current majority, unless of course you agree with that majority . . . and that would be a bigger 'flip-flop' than renauds! What? Belittling candidates? If I see what I believe is a bad idea I'm going to say so, regardless of whose idea it is. One would hope board members and board candidates would do the same. I refuse to fall into the Bob Thompson thinking as when he just recently told me after the last board meeting, "There is no such thing as a bad idea." There are bad ideas. Tearing up that YC patio and installing a playground for 50 or so youngsters is a bad idea, whether it comes from Pat Renaud, Bob Thompson, Steven Lind, or any candidate. That's my opinion. Your mileage may vary. |
