Steve,
Likewise, I do hope we are able to catch up sometime soon and chat. And I agree 100% with your message, there is no sound rationale for raiding the piggy bank on all the frivolous expenses. It seems the current leadership is afraid of bright ideas, and lacks any ability to look at sound business principles when making decisions. Spending money is about total cost, and return on investment, period. As soon as any "spin" on numbers comes into play, the red flags should come up that the business case is missing. If you have to justify an investment based on any calculation of cost per owner, etc., the argument is destined for failure. The justification is strictly how is any one dollar going to return AT LEAST that same dollar back to the community. Our HOA dues are an investment in our future, and somehow that mindset has been lost. For the statements, I think we are being forced into playing some secret decoder game. I am just waiting for them to tell us no vowels in any words, so we use less space. How ridiculous can we get? Brett |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: hi brett, hope to run into you someday to chat . . . I used the term comic relief not to indicate a joke, but to indicate the inability of a homeowners association to come up with any idea that is actually business oriented. fishtales, rope walk, dead freddies, all have playgrounds, and all are 'paved' with a very inexpensive commodity . . . sand. when on the clubs committee I also presented a slew of fairly bright ideas . . . most of which went nowhere. the ones that were accepted were basically the window dressing ideas, anything based on sound business principal went nowhere. as joe says, there has never been a time where the board considers return on investment. I previously pointed out the "it's only x$ per property owner" refrain; another thing that gets me nuts is "it's an amenity", used constantly to justify YC losses and mistakes. BTW, speaking of things that get me nuts, been working on my 50 words . . . it truly is disgraceful that property owners are provided that meaningless amount of info with which they are supposed to make an informed decision. steve lind |
