hi brett, hope to run into you someday to chat . . .
I used the term comic relief not to indicate a joke, but to indicate the inability of a homeowners association to come up with any idea that is actually business oriented. fishtales, rope walk, dead freddies, all have playgrounds, and all are 'paved' with a very inexpensive commodity . . . sand. when on the clubs committee I also presented a slew of fairly bright ideas . . . most of which went nowhere. the ones that were accepted were basically the window dressing ideas, anything based on sound business principal went nowhere. as joe says, there has never been a time where the board considers return on investment. I previously pointed out the "it's only x$ per property owner" refrain; another thing that gets me nuts is "it's an amenity", used constantly to justify YC losses and mistakes. BTW, speaking of things that get me nuts, been working on my 50 words . . . it truly is disgraceful that property owners are provided that meaningless amount of info with which they are supposed to make an informed decision. steve lind |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Steve, You make the comment about playground equipment at the YC as a joke, but in all honesty, it is a fairly bright idea and would be a very positive change, provided such a resource was only available for use by paying customers. Look at every restaurant in Ocean City that caters to families, and they are carrying hour or longer waits throughout the entire busy season, and still hold strong in the off season. Fish tales just rebuilt their playground, Marina Deck added a huge indoor playground in the off season, and the playground is the one of the marketing tools of the new Parched Pelican on 123rd. A family looking to dine with children will favor a restaurant with playground or something to entertain kids, even if there is a wait, over a restaurant with nothing for the kids. Among the many misses of the new yacht club design is the fact that there are actual families in Ocean Pines, and that families do actually go out to dinner. Brett |
