Yes, that fiber is operated by the Maryland Broadband Cooperative. I am a member of that cooperative, and if I am not mistaken, another partner entity is serving a business or businesses at the South Gate using their backhaul capacity. That network provides what is classified as "middle mile". By their structure, they are unable to serve individual residents, but rather act as a gateway for other carriers to reach markets outside of the metro areas of Baltimore and Washington. The MdBC is working very closely with my firm on our Delmarva expansion, and would be my source for connectivity to the outside world if I were designing any solution for OP. Their headquarters is in Salisbury, and the management team is in Worcester county almost weekly now. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Perhaps you are aware of it, but the State of Maryland has a very high capacity fiber optic line on OPA's door step. I believe it runs down Route 589. Part of the fiber optic service primarily used to serve the rocket facility at Wallops Island. The State has an entire division set up to market and sell bandwidth to private entities and will even find business partners for operations like OPA. I passed on this information, including the name of phone number of the person running this for the state, to Bob Thompson about two years ago. To my knowledge no contact was ever made. |
