Perhaps you are aware of it, but the State of Maryland has a very high capacity fiber optic line on OPA's door step. I believe it runs down Route 589. Part of the fiber optic service primarily used to serve the rocket facility at Wallops Island.
The State has an entire division set up to market and sell bandwidth to private entities and will even find business partners for operations like OPA. I passed on this information, including the name of phone number of the person running this for the state, to Bob Thompson about two years ago. To my knowledge no contact was ever made. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Slobodan, I reached out to Bob Thompson about doing something like you describe last fall, and could not get any response back. My legal team already went through the Mediacom franchise agreement, and it is completely viable and within the boundaries of all existing agreements for a new provider to come in with internet only like Google Fiber. I have a feeling I could be building in Bayside in Selbyville before Ocean Pines. If the administration here was open to such an arrangement, this community is a very easy business model for a Google Fiber like opportunity. I have 3 different providers in my existing customer base who would jump at the prospects of over 8000 homes in one neighborhood. Unfortunately, I think there are bigger problems to tackle before Internet here. We are fortunate, compared to other areas of the Delmarva, to actually have some level of cell service and some level of choices for internet. There may be better options available in other markets, but we do at least have something. Brett |
