There may also be a a valve on the sevice water main on the house side of the County meter. I have one that has a 3 inch pvc pipe sticking out of the ground. Theory is you stick the tool in the pipe and shut off the valve. My problem is is that the valve has locked open. In many folks zeal to save a few bucks they go to the panel and shut off all the electricty. Don't do this!! Keep the frig and freezer on. or clean them out. Otherwise next Spring you could walk into a house to joy of food five months into decomposition. Had this happen one time with a freezer full of fish. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: The tool you mention can be used to shut off the water supply at the road. Should be a 12-inch or so diameter "manhole" cover someplace for every lot. |
