Sorry, but I'm not familiar with those laws. A fellow approached me at lunch yesterday and brought up this issue. He suggested OPA try and do something about pit bulls in the DRs. I have no idea if that is possible. I pick up my mail next to a home with a couple of youngsters and I've seen their pit bull/s loose on the property. I'm wondering too why the state police were handling this and not the OP police. Firing a revolver at a dog in a residential neighborhood isn't the safest thing in the word to do either, but the officer probably felt he had no other option. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe, There is a front page story in today's Independent "Charging dog killed by officer's gun". There are a number of aspects to this story I find interesting but most interesting to me is the very last sentence of the story. "He will receive a $100 fine for the dog being off its leash, Sharp said" (Sgt. David Sharp of the Maryland State Police) If you recall a number of years ago County Commissioner Tom Cetolla sponsored a leash law that was subsequently passed. The law lacked any prescribed penalties and essentially was just a slap on the wrist if violated. To your knowledge, was that ordinance modified with a prescribed penalty or is there now a "State" leash law? Norm |
