Joe:
I haven’t seen, heard or read nearly enough on the referendum to make an educated decision. Plans, specifications and material take offs are not even available. However, I have reviewed the structural engineering report, and I think “needed” is a little strong and should be “wanted”. The existing fire station is functional and operating well. If every building is to be made to comply with the ADA code almost every building over 40 years old will need to be torn down and rebuilt. I hope this isn’t about “want”. Marty |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Some background: This referendum is likely to pass by a wide margin. It should. A new Southside fire station is needed. That said, is the proposed new structure truly adequate to serve the next 50 years or so. Fact is, not enough information has been provided for association members to know one way or the other. OPA and OPVFD seem satisfied. However, given the importance of the new station and continued public safety, is it possible another one or two million dollars would be well spent, perhaps to bring the new station to the size and capability the OPVFD originally requested? The current proposal calls for a 15,370-square-foot facility, down from the original 19,100-square-foot concept. Will the new structure have four bays, or just the current three? ************ (Feb. 2, 2023) Time for new Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Dept. house - Worcester County News Bayside Gazette ************ Ocean Pines officials provide update on South Fire Station plans | News | coasttv.com Feb 24, 2025 The above link contains the following: An architect is finalizing project plans, with key milestones including: Initial architectural drawings by Feb. 28, 2025 *********** It is now June 14, 2025.
