![]() ![]() Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Bicycle Lanes on Parkway Msg# 1226408

Joe, I'm not a Civil Engineer but to comply with Maryland law the roadway would probably need an additional eight feet minimum? Many years ago they wanted to add an additional lane to the expressway here in Philly but there is zero room to do so. The latest idea is to double deck the highway! There's a better chance of flying cars. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I'm suggesting that patti has an idea for how to make the bike lanes a reality. i don't know what it is because i haven't dug into it, but now i'm really going to have to do the work, reach out, ask questions and listen to what she and the other committee members are thinking. There is no magic here. If you read all the messages in this discussion you will see what she is proposing. A legal bike lane must comply with Maryland design rules. Pattie knows what they are. what she proposes is a four foot wide bicycle path. It would require narrowing the motor vehicle lane width and reducing the speed limit. It would also require no parking. I addresses all this in another post. Have you read it? As for your research, I posted a link to the state design rules. As for what board members signed, perhaps the language was not all that clear. My prediction? There will be no Maryland approved bicycle lane on the Parkway. |
