![]() ![]() Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Pecuniary Pickleballers Protest Msg# 1198804

All amenities are paid for with the HOA fee. I don't play golf or pickleball, but both make money and help lower my assessment. Those were smart investments. I don't have a boat at the marina and I do have a problem with not capitalizing on that revenue. Aquatics loses money yet the Board gave a discount for couples memberships last year and did not raise rates to even keep up with inflation and wage costs. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think you are being very judgmental considering you probably don’t play pickleball. Interesting comment about the people who paid the most so pickleballers can play. You know who they are - all the association members who don't play but saw hundreds of thousands of their assessment dollars go to create a new amenity for pickleball players - a large number of whom do not own property in Ocean Pines. Not to mention the irreplaceable Wonder Man who had OPA association members pay to build a fence to keep out freeloading pickleballers. Most areas where I play in Florida and Maryland have “free” pickleball facilities. So, you spend your winters or a fair amount of time in Florida, yet seem very upset that a pickleball individual membership may increase 40 cents a week. Pickleball probably brings more money to the facility than the other two sports. That is not in dispute, but Tennis membership already costs about $100 more than pickleball. Are you going to drop your pickleball membership over a 40-cent-a-week increase? It’s just another money grab by Ocean Pines Board because pickleball is more popular. The money grab was by pickballers who thought all association members were obligated to spend hundreds of thousands for a new pickleball amenity. Stop the childish dispute over comparing tennis membership fees to pickleball. For starters, I don't believe the original Manklin Meadows tennis facility was built with OPA dollars - unlike the new pickleball amenity that was paid for by all of your fellow association members. |
