Mornin' Joe,
No. I’m just continuing the verbal repartee that began years ago. ?? Just kinda funny actually that the same type of thing is occurring here in Jupiter. Years ago two roller hockey rinks were built in Palm Beach Gardens. They were a bust and virtually unused. The Rec commission retrofitted them into pickleball courts, much like we did to the two hard courts. They were wildly popular, and they charged $0 to play. That helped the popularity issue. This year they have unilaterally closed the Lilac St courts and built a brand new complex across the street. Twenty-four brand new courts. They are quite nice. The only issue is that if you don’t live in Palm Beach county, there is a fee-structure now. County residents- cheap, non-residents- pucker up! You can imagine the hue & cry. Fortunately there are many places to play down here for not a! Just thought it's interesting that you can travel 1200 miles and find you’re having the same conversation. “You can’t make this stuff up!” Enjoy the game! Terry |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: He's actually never done anything other than be negative on the subject of PB since the very beginning! “pecuniary Pickleballers,” give me a break!?????? I am not negative on pickleball, just negative on pickleballers who have been whining since the sport was first established in Ocean Pines. Association members contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to initiate a new pickleball amenity. No matter what OPA did for the pickleballers, it was never enough. The whining continues over a membership increase of less than a dollar a week, 40 cents a week for a single. Not to mention the muttering in the Town Hall meeting about where pickleball is free. One minor example is the manager who walked off the job and badmouthed OPA management and wanted a fence around the pickleball courts to keep out cheaters. The pickleballers demanded OPA give the man whatever he wanted. He was indispensable. He was wonderful. He got the fence and a Director title. Weeks later he left for Ocean City. The fence wasn't high enough to keep out the cheating pickleballers, folks who are not Racket Sport members, and, quite possibly, many may not even own property in Ocean Pines. So, after all the weeping and wailing, gnashing of teeth, and your comments about me, are you personally opposed to the pickleball membership rate increases? |
