OPA by-laws mandate that our amenities be run as a business, not a charity. Being the one to raise the question earlier today, I think Bob answered it when he suggested it's a question of supply and demand. We have considerably lower numbers of memberships of tennis and platform tennis versus pickleball. Management made a business decision the best strategy to try to grow the tennis members is not to raise the rates. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think you are being very judgmental considering you probably don’t play pickleball. The whole point is not the increase, but rather why they are proposing to increase pickleball and not tennis or platform tennis. Pickleball probably brings more money to the facility than the other two sports. It’s just another money grab by Ocean Pines Board because pickleball is more popular. Most areas where I play in Florida and Maryland have “free” pickleball facilities. |
