You have shared with me off line that you received the budget number for the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department to the Ocean Pines Association, Inc. from the administration office at OPA. I must speculate that it came from the OPVFD as their request for funding in the upcoming budget.
Yes. You asked me about the source of the proposed budget number in my commentary. I told you it was OP admin. Speculate as you choose. I asked OPA for the proposed budget amount for OPVFD in the upcoming OPA budget and was given the number. I am not big on speculating or guessing when most of this information is, or should be available for any association member’s inspection. Yet you speculate. What on earth are you talking about? Sounds like an attempt to make a big deal over nothing. I would expect any association member can obtain the same information. How does Showell Volunteer Fire Department stay in business without a cash cow in their back pocket? Call Showell and report back. That doesn’t pale to your revelation that next budget will show a $554,810, or 74% increase in just the last three (3) years. You must have missed the dispute when Larry Perrone questioned the big increase in the OPVFD budget and was roundly criticized for doing so. What you failed to mention was the budget this year was over a million. The fire department apparently needs more and more full-time personnel and some major replacement equipment. I don't have all those specific details. I suggest you attend the upcoming budget review session of the B&F Committee and fire department. Your implication that OPA is somehow hiding the proposed budget number from association members is not credible. Contact opainfo. Very helpful. By the way, I made no revelation. I simply reported what OPA says is the current proposed budget for OPVFD. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Joe: You have shared with me off line that you received the budget number for the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department to the Ocean Pines Association, Inc. from the administration office at OPA. I must speculate that it came from the OPVFD as their request for funding in the upcoming budget. I am not big on speculating or guessing when most of this information is, or should be available for any association member’s inspection. I was concerned when the cost to OPA for the OPVFD jumped by $318,834, or 43% from 2022 to 2023. That doesn’t pale to your revelation that next budget will show a $554,810, or 74% increase in just the last three (3) years. This is unsustainable growth.
