the paper trail people want from online voting could be easily taken care of. Get someone with some IT experience to look for that package or check with other groups/HOAs. oh wait, let’s go back to the stone ages. The inability to rely on the USPS is a valid concern. Remember we KNOW the paper ballot system was a bust. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I brought up the issue of secret ballot in the context of online voting results. After hearing back from George and reading the Elections Committee report you posted earlier, I better understand the difference between 1st source documentation as with paper ballots and 2nd source as you would get from online voting. Let me stretch the conversation out a bit further. Is there a form of 2nd source documentation of online voting results that would be acceptable in order to return with online voting as an option? Let me explain. If the 2nd source is merely a four-line report, such as, "The results of online voting are: Candidate A, 220; Candidate B, 110; Candidate C, 173; Candidate D, 94", I would agree that is not enough to support online voting as an option. However, if the 2nd source is a detailed report like I illustrated in an earlier post where the voting results of each lot are printed out with a bottom-line tally, e.g. "Section 1, lot 4 -- Candidate A and Candidate B; Section 1, lot 47 -- Candidate B and Candidate C; Section 2, lot 164 -- Candidate A and Candidate C", might this be acceptable 2nd source documentation? In this example, I would allow the Committee to review the report and accept it along with paper ballot results to certify the election results. Give the report to one of the contractors for safekeeping. |
