Suppose there are two open board positions and the two highest vote getters are separated by one or two votes, or even a tie. Do we simply accept the numbers from some Internet site as gospel with no way to verify? We should have no process without paper. Backup that can be recounted.
"Recounted" is the bottom line. The by-laws allow a candidate to request a recount. For paper ballots, I would trust the individual(s) doing the recount to look at each ballot and verify "Section 2, lot 29 voted for candidates A and B"....... "Section 4, lot 40 voted for candidates B and C"....... and so on. You can't possibly satisfy the by-laws without doing the exact same thing for internet ballots as described above for paper ballots. Find a system that can do that and conform with the by-laws before introducing internet balloting for the August 2024 board election. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: One lot one vote with traceability is the ultimate goal, no matter how the vote is cast. I have to wonder how a paper trail is even possible with internet voting. Sure, Internet voting is possible but that does not mean it must be used. If internet voting is so safe and secure, why is it not used in national elections? We shoukd have no process without paper. Backup that can be recounted. For example, suppose there are two board positions open and the two highest vote getters are separated by one or two votes, or even a tie. Do we simply accept the numbers from some Internet site as gospel with no way to verify? Electing board members to run our HOA with an $18 million budget should not be accomplished like a Monkey poll. OPA should protect the election process. A paper trail should be mandatory. I was at the meeting when the Horn presidency board approved internet voting. What transpired was a disgrace. |
