tom, I hope that you get to look at my reply to brett re the playground. I mention that the successful oc businesses that have playgrounds are 'paved' with sand. maybe we won't use sand, but the fact remains that we can't mount playground equipment on concrete (ie pavers). so the very expensive pavers would need to be removed or covered . . . don't get me wrong tom, I am not knocking your interest in this, I am pointing out how big-buck projects such as the YC are planned and completed without forethought, without any kind of sound business reasoning. That is my only point, and I appreciate you and brett responding to my original email that brought this subject up.
as you heard me say to BT at the gm meeting - - and as I have stated in print many times - - the yc/cove is a retail business disguised as an amenity . . . it sells a retail product at retail prices, it is open to the public, and there is no price structure that differentiates between property owners and non-property owners, as the true amenities offer. the banquet hall - - which was the focus and main purpose of the construction - - is basically open to the property owners by 'invitation only', and certainly cannot be considered an amenity; it's primary function is to cater to non-assessment paying outsiders (ie 'guests'). I would bet that a huge segment of our property owners will never see the second floor of the building that they paid for. steve lind p.s. - last posting for today, gotta get back to my 50 words . . . I'm at 52 and it's taking me a long time trying to figure out which two words to eliminate while still making a grammatically correct, coherent (but meaningless) statement. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Brett, If you look at the crowd at the yacht club on Friday night there were quite a few kids there with nothing to do. Some of them were breaking rocks on the retaining wall others just sitting with their parents begging to go home. I hear the food truck might not pass. How about we take that money and build a playground for the families with children and grandchildren that want to come to the yacht club. I am sure we can find space on that huge patio to house it and we have free labor. Just look at all the planter boxes our public works department(or was it the maintenance dept.) built for the yacht club. Hard to tell, I have never seen those numbers in the Yacht Club final costs. I would be more than happy to discuss this with you and we could figure out were to put it, I have a couple of ideas and prices! Tom J. |
