Would you, if elected, support closing the YC from the end of September until the first of April?
No, definitely not. If we need to close an amenity that we have invested over $5 million in redeveloping for any period of time, it means we are doing something wrong in operating the facility. Denovo's operates year-round 3 miles away, why can't we? Closing down is a Band-Aid, it doesn't heal the wound. That also means we can get no staff consistency, and will struggle every season getting back into the grove of operating procedures because we will be completely retraining staff. You can't expect good management and staff to find another job for 7 months of the year. And technically, you are going to force yourself into a loss for every month you aren't operating. It is safe to assume a reasonable number of staff will claim unemployment, which is redirected back at the YC in terms of future UE rate factors. Building maintenance, utilities, and depreciation will still occur every month, as well as the presumed salary of the senior management that was paid in past years even when there was no building there. It would be wiser to fix the problem than accept a fixed loss for more than half the year. Brett Seems on one hand you're suggesting thorough analysis of financial costs, potential markets, and to consider local conditions. But in the above, you've already reached a definite conclusion, saying No, definitely not Seems you've overlooked some very successful local restaurants which are closed locally in the coldest three months. And the significant number of "Snow Bird" OP residents who winter away in Fla. I'd suggest further analysis, such as Marty Clark and others have undertaken, should be reviewed before you finalize this one. Tom |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: What are your suggestions to correct the other deficiencies? Simply changing management will not correct most of the deficiencies you have mentioned. Very simply, we need an executive chef / manager who can create and execute a menu delivering a quality food product at a reasonable cost. This menu needs to carried out throughout all operating hours. If the YC is supposed to be open until 9 or 10pm, there should not be restrictions on what time you can order what items. I am baffled at how last year the main menu was cut off at 8pm. I can understand limited options for late night (like after 10), but for most of the population, 8pm isn't late night, especially on a weekend night. For sound, relocating the band between the fire pit and tiki bar would allow diners to enjoy the investment in entertainment, and still serve the patrons of the tiki bar as well. Inside, a couple hundred dollars in sound absorbing panels would greatly alter the acoustics, and make the environment feel much warmer, and less sterile. If we can spend almost $25k in awnings to fix a problem on the tiki bar, surely some sound panels could be installed inside.
