![]() ![]() Section 4: General Subject: HB 1553 Slots $ for OPA Msg# 652297

I think that anyone inclined to encourage passage of HB 1553, should ask themselves a few questions. i.e.: 1) Do you believe that slots will impact Ocean Pines? 2)If so, do you believe that the proximity of the planned site for slots will contribute to that impact? 3)Do you believe that Ocean Pines will be impacted more greatly than Ocean City? Berlin? 4) Would it not make more sense to base any impact payout on an actual, provable impact formula and an annual application for impact funds from each community? 5) Should Ocean City get 20%, even if they have a positive impact? For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I just sent the following email to the OPA Board of Directors: Now that legislation has been introduced to provide 10% of the slots impact funds directly to OPA, I suggest the Board of Directors take whatever steps are necessary to immediately begin lobbying in Annapolis for passage of the bill, just as the board lobbied for passage of the bill with regard to our police department a few years ago. |
