Les, since you are a board member have you asked yourself these questions? If so, what are the measurable, quantifiable impacts that OPA will seek ask from the county if OPA ends up having to ask the county EVERY year? If you cannot name those measurable, quantifiable impacts now, how will any future board do so. Should Ocean City get 20%, even if they have a positive impact? Les, why waste time discussing or speculating about something that will never happen. The legislature is not going to take away OC's share. The only people I know who ever thought this would ever happen are the county commissioners and the OPA Board. I can understand why the commissioners want ALL the money; money and the right to dole it out represents power and control. It seems board members can't stop beating on Ocean City over this issue. What on earth can the board possibly hope to gain by beating on Ocean City. It sure isn't making us any friends over there. Do you support OPA receiving a dedicated 10% share every year? By the way, I don't see Berlin begging the state to take away their 10% on some premise that the county would give them more than 10%. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I think that anyone inclined to encourage passage of HB 1553, should ask themselves a few questions. i.e.: 1) Do you believe that slots will impact Ocean Pines? 2)If so, do you believe that the proximity of the planned site for slots will contribute to that impact? 3)Do you believe that Ocean Pines will be impacted more greatly than Ocean City? Berlin? 4) Would it not make more sense to base any impact payout on an actual, provable impact formula and an annual application for impact funds from each community? 5) Should Ocean City get 20%, even if they have a positive impact?
