"Junk" is a term that each person defines differently...as evidenced by some of the "art" that sprouts in front of public buildings these days. To many people it appears more like overflow from the local scrap yard. Then you have things like "car henge" and Ocean City is even thinking about a "boat henge" on the beach. Are these endeavors "art" or just junked vehicles/boats standing on end? I have heard one definition of art that seems to apply universally..."If the check clears...it's art!" In a post about trash and debris Bill Rakow mentioned an old toilet sitting in a front yard...now imagine that toilet lovingly positioned in the garden with petunias growing out of it. Junk or lawn ornament? It usually boils down to personal taste...and although some people might fall into the "poor" category...in this politically correct world we are told that we should respect their choices. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In the area of junk, one man's junk is another's treasure. Joe Joe, I agree completely. I probably have more JUNQUE than anyone you know. I have a third floor in my house that is like a museum. BUT....no one can see this stuff but those of us who happen to go up there from time to time.( My daughter is moving back from NYC tomorrow, so I imagine that there will be much less stuff up there when she starts picking out what she wants for her house.) A person can keep whatever they wish IF they have a place to store it out of sight. You can be like Jay Leno and collect cars, but you need a garage or other structure to house them. What you do in private is no one's business, but when you put it out there for all to see.....it becomes the business of everyone within sight! I am very glad to hear that Worcester County does have rules about junky cars! I figured that any civilized place would. Nancy |
