I haven't forgotten the library. Iam still steamed about how they treated the Ocean Pines Library. When it was suggested that a second story be added for future expansion, the Pocomoke commissioner, Bobby Cowger, said, "We're not building a Taj Mahal" and the request was turned down. I'm glad that the Ocean City commissioner had the clout to get what they needed in Ocean City. Too bad we don't have that kind of clout with our 1 1/2 commissioners. I agree with you completely. I remember when the OC Library suddenly was several million over budget and the other Commissioners were balking as well they should. OC Commissioner Louise Guylas kept defending the indefensible and ended up the session with comments along the line of "let's stop all this jawboning and just get it done". The extra funds were then approved. As an aside, regarding the OC Library I had a real laugh when we videoed Student Government day where students from surrounding high schools are selected to be County Commissioners for a day complete with real problems. The OC Library happened to be on their agenda and the students began questioning the usage, size and expenditure for the facility. Louise was in the audience and was turning pale during the discussion. The students knew how to call a spade a spade and were doing so. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: If questioned, their answer is the center was build in anticipation of Summerfield. The Recreation Center was planned long before Summerfield was even an idea. Don't let them tell you otherwise. Don't forget the $6M OC library which cost almost 50% more than was budgeted. The library was built on a "budget be damned attitude" with the clout of the Commissioner representing OC and the fact that other Commissioners might need her support on future projects in their Districts. I haven't forgotten the library. Iam still steamed about how they treated the Ocean Pines Library. When it was suggested that a second story be added for future expansion, the Pocomoke commissioner, Bobby Cowger, said, "We're not building a Taj Mahal" and the request was turned down. Too bad we don't have that kind of clout with our 1 1/2 commissioners. .......should refuse to pay their property taxes for 3 years. No need for everyone to do this. All that's necessary is to bring or draw media and public attention to an issue. You can do it yourself and once you get some press, who knows what might happen. Go for it. The whole point is that EVERYONE should do this to show the county commissioners just how much of their revenue comes from Ocean Pines. They cannot operate without our money. Maybe that would change their attitude towards us. It cannot be a sole person thing. We do not need a martyr, we need a concerted effort.
