Residents have been driving golf carts at Leisure World since 1967. They still do.

The community is gated and no one may drive outside the gates. People do try to sneak up to the Giant shopping center which is a right turn inton the lot just outside the gate, but they are stopped if the guard sees them.

If a golf cart is going less than the speed limit, they must keep to the right of the road, so that folks can pass easily.

These carts are not registered.

The Montgomery Co. police says they do not know of a Maryland law or Mo.Co. law that prohibits golf carts in private communities.

Ocean Pines even has its own police dept. ...since there is no county police dept.

Maybe the laws in Worcester Co. are different from the rest of the state.

There is no STATE law that prohibits drivining a golf cart on private roads.( if there were, I think that they would have found out about the carts at Leisure World ... by now. )

Golf carts are very convenient, and they do hold down the speeding, save money and take up less space in parking lots.

They work well....and are especially important now with horrible gas prices.
