I was there at Hamilton JHS in the early 1950's
Was MS Winikee a tall teacher and quite fluid talker ? I Had Winikee/ Wincklebleck for home room. But I do recall Mr Hudak was gym teacher. Mr Blum was chemistry. Mr Jersa was metal shop And those days there was an all boys home economics /cooking class where we baked biscuits, etc. And then the girls took wood shop classes. I sang in the glee club there. Some of the older class mates would ride Cushman motor scooters or motor bikes, allowed at ages 14 or 15 in Maryland, but later raised to age 16. In our family, we had our own Evinrude 5 HP outboard motor, and went fishing by renting a rowboat and attaching our outboard motor. Boat Rental places included Dundalk, Salt Peter Creek, Choptank River, Ocean City, etc.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: My sister & I both attended that school. Good memories for Hamilton Jr High School. Sometimes called Sefton, an indication of its street address. Do you recall the Civics teacher, Miss Winklebleck ? She Was popular with the kids in those days. When I later attended law school, there was an elective course called Latin for Lawyers, but I did not chose that one. No, Tom, I don't recall her. There was a MS Winikee that was popular. I entered HJH in fall 56. Graduated June 59. Principal was Helen Chambers who became head of Eastern HS for girls in 1960. Vice principal was Warren Culbertson. Toughest boy in school was George Palmieri who nobody messed with cause eventually he'd mess with you who later became a hair dresser. Some teachers - Ms Pertsh-Spanish, Mr Calvert-science, Ms Taylor-history, Ms Gustafson-health, Ms Cox-science ( a hottie), Ms Fry-home ec., Mr Price-wood shop, Mr Penniman-general shop, then Hudak and Christoff-gymn Spent my weekends in the rec center next door. I remember putting a nickel in the jukebox to play Tom Dooley. Happy Days, Tom. |
