I agree with you as to making it safer, however, safety begins with the individual. How many bikers do you see riding in the wrong direction, without a helmet or even with headphones. As to walkers how many walk with the traffic instead of against the traffic, with dogs on leashes that allow them to be in the middle of the road, again with headphones or even three or four individuals taking up a large part of the road.. IMO adding additional space will not necessarily make it safer unless the individual practices safety.
By the way I rode or ran for years over our roads and around the world without issues. Again just my opinion |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Maybe I should be more specific. When I walk out my driveway on the St Martins [THE TRUCK ROUTE] I measure the inbound lane to be 129.inches. Then I make a right face and walk towards Ocean Parkway and I measure again and I see 137 inches... Given the painted stripe plus or minus 4 inches, I see a foot. Any room we give pedestrians and bikers is a plus. I can't see anyone not wanting to make it safer... But I could be wrong. |
