They had perhaps fifty or more different varieties of oysters from around the world. Only possible in a place like NYC. As I recall, I also had dinner one time in a first floor restaurant associated with the then basement raw bar.
Last time I was there was perhaps 30 years or more ago. Had some writer/publisher business at Field & Stream headquarters at Times Square. Somehow ended up eating raw oysters with Les Line, editor of Audubon magazine, and Clare Conley, editor of Outdoor Life magazine. Next time I made it to Manhattan the basement place was closed. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: That place in the basement was closed because of a fire (years ago) then reopened to new management for a number of years and then Covid closed it. It has since reopened and I have a standing invitation from one of my former business associates...but haven't gotten to NYC in two years. Also have a $100 gift certificate for one of the best steak houses in NYC. It's 5 years old and burning a hole in my pocket |
