And please, don't give me the crap about this board - - or any board - - being responsible for the current financial successes of Ocean Pines. We owe that credit to our general manager, John Viola.
Hi Steve. Always good to hear from you on the forum. I agree with you. However, the success of any GM depends on any board not trying to "micro-manage" what the GM does. One thing this current board does not do is micro-manage the GM. That said, even Viola credits prior boards for voting to spend dollars on things he recommended like the new golf clubhouse, etc. Things that help drive the financial success OPA now enjoys. p.s. - re the board member and the OPA contract, it was actually Joe Reynolds who 'exposed' that . . . Joe spotted some stealth shenanigans at a board meeting and questioned the board president as to what was going on. Indeed. Good memory, Steve. Brett Hill was elected to the Board of Directors and not long thereafter his company attempted to have the Board of Directors award some sort of a deal where it would install fiber optic cable for Internet service in OP. At least, I think that is what you reference. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: "Saturday’s vote is the only board vote in my 35 years living in Ocean Pines to make me ashamed of our Board of Directors." A powerful statement indeed. In my 25 years as a full time resident, I too have seen things get 'heated' . . . but board members conducted themselves with integrity. So the question is, is integrity a trait that is no longer valued and/or expected from our board. Also, independent thinking seems to be a thing of the past. Sure, a 'board majority' is one thing, but being a lap-dog is another. Seems to me that there are one or two board members who could just stay home, and we could just add their yes vote to whatever their leader proposes. And please, don't give me the crap about this board - - or any board - - being responsible for the current financial successes of Ocean Pines. We owe that credit to our general manager, John Viola. So just let the GM do his job, the board needs to keep out of his way . . . you 'majority' board members can keep busy by protecting the 'free speech' of the vile, demeaning, repulsive facebook page that attacks women who are guilty of having different views than you. Just as a side note, a few years back I commented that a certain candidate wanted to be a board member 'too badly' . . . and then we eventually learned that said board member (he was elected) was hoping to have a company he was associated with awarded a lucrative contract with the OPA. The point is, you gotta wonder why there are two of three people who want to control the board so badly that they will engage in and/or condone the politics of personal destruction. Steve Lind Colonial Village p.s. - re the board member and the OPA contract, it was actually Joe Reynolds who 'exposed' that . . . Joe spotted some stealth shenanigans at a board meeting and questioned the board president as to what was going on. |
