tax-exempt
I use that myself, but the correct term, I believe, is non-profit. I don't understand why a huge amenity should be allowed to be closed for fiscal reasons unless the projected loss was astronomical. It doesn't seem that would be the case paying 20 instead of 14. You are assuming lifeguards would suddenly show up for $20. Based on the national shortage, I'm not so sure. Can you or anyone tell us how many days each individual pool was not open last year due to a lifeguard shortage? I have a feeling the number is low. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I hope they do at least require proof this season. I mean regardless of what decisions are thought to be best for pay and pricing, not requiring proof of rental/residency is just silly, lazy wastefulness. Thanks for noting that will change, phew. I know that the issue of private/public is a huge tax concern because legally, we cannot be private and tax-exempt and we cannot be public and have no lifeguard per MD law. I do believe though, that we should pay a large amount to keep the pools open. There were many years when other funds covered amenity losses. Opa budget has plenty profit overall, and ability to put away the enormous planned reserves, etc. I don't understand why a huge amenity should be allowed to be closed for fiscal reasons unless the projected loss was astronomical. It doesn't seem that would be the case paying 20 instead of 14. I shouldn't complain though, as my favorite pool is the yacht club one. And they sure aren't going to close that one. Might be more crowded though. |
