Not sure, of course, what increased pay amount would work, but seems like they should at least be making a better attempt. As for numbers of days closed, not sure, as I didn't note them, but we used to have a place near the yacht club for 15 years, then moved to a place closer to the Swim & Racquet Club pool. Thus, we were more aware of the closed days there last season, which was quite a bit, at least two weeks worth of days, maybe more? I am unsure of the totals there, but over all of the pools, seems like a lot to me. It is an opinion as to whether it was "a lot" or not, and my opinion is, it was a lot. That judgment felt last season was due to a lot of community talk about comparatively low pay for the lifeguards.
Not sure if the estimates of lost income to not requiring proof of residency are accurate, but whatever that number is would go a long way to helping pay the lifeguards more. I will enjoy the wonderful summer of Ocean Pines amenities regardless. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: tax-exempt I use that myself, but the correct term, I believe, is non-profit. I don't understand why a huge amenity should be allowed to be closed for fiscal reasons unless the projected loss was astronomical. It doesn't seem that would be the case paying 20 instead of 14. You are assuming lifeguards would suddenly show up for $20. Based on the national shortage, I'm not so sure. Can you or anyone tell us how many days each individual pool was not open last year due to a lifeguard shortage? I have a feeling the number is low. |
