Students ( and others) often work to accumulate money for the next school year. Along with OPA paying less, often they do not get the hours they need to make the required money. This has happened at the indoor pool. Lifeguard wanting to work, and asking for more hours, but the pool closed. Why would they want to work for an employer that pays less and offer less hours? Could there be a problem with management of the pools? | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It's difficult for the pools to attract teenagers (and likely adults) when they can make a lot more in other places. Even with the lifeguard pay increase for this year, it's quite a bit less than kids are making between hourly pay/tips that they earn at restaurants. My 16 year old would be taking about a $4/hour pay cut to become a lifeguard. My first summer job 30 years ago paid $5/hour, and I thought I was rich. Times have certainly changed! |
