Every home, with just a few exceptions, in Ocean Pines has a crawl space. I am not sure what you expected to happen in December with the heat shut down. We may have that big heat sink called the Atlantic Ocean but freezing weather is not that unusual this time of year. When I did not occupy our home my Dad had a special valve installed where the water is turned off near the meter box. When the water is turned off, via the 2' removable handle, the lines from the home also drain. Easy to do and a good safety factor. If you are going to leave the heat off you need to drain the lines in the home. If water did freeze and burst the pipes it may not be evident as of yet as it is still pretty cold here. It would not be noticed until a warmer day starts melting the ice then all hell can break loose. Hopefully you got lucky but I would do everything possible to ascertain that the pipes are OK. I would also have someone turn the heat on. What were you thinking was going to happen in January and February? |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: I have a home in OP and I don't reside there. It was built in 1999 It is built off the ground with a crawl space. Should I be worried about pipes freezing? |
