![]() ![]() Section 5: OPA Board Subject: Board Punts on Slots Msg# 527589

How was the $300-500,000 calculated? I believe it is based upon a number Jim Mathias has put out in local papers as the expected initial return to Worcester County of around $5 million or so. This is yet another spin the three board members are using to justify their decision... as though the county itself would ever give OPA even that much. However, as you know the Harrington numbers are higher and based on their number of machines the return to Worcester should be in the range of 10 to 12 million. Initially all 2000 or so slots will not be operational at Ocean Downs. In the long run Worcester County total should probably be closer to $15 million. The three board members are gonna duck for cover. I don't blame them; the press release is so lame as to be embarrasing. |
