Ocean Pines is part of a county too....only we don't get anything that I can see and it is not because we are not a municipality. It is because we are not organized and don't ASK! There is no doubt we need to be more proactive about "asking", however, here on the Eastern Shore the good ole boy network is still alive and well. I just have always sensed that Berlin, Ocean City, Snow Hill, Pocomoke are viewed as the "locals" and Ocean Pines are the "come heres". |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Hi Jack, I really don't see what "municipality" has to do with it. In Montgomery County we have a few little towns that predate the growth of the county and our present form of government. I suppose they will remain as towns. Our biggest "towns" are not municipalities at all. Bethesda and Silver Spring are just communities. We have our own Advisory Councils and such and have to lobby for what we get as any town in the county would do. You would NOT believe what we went through to get the New Silver Spring. We started in 1987 and met and argued over the Silver Triangle, and met and argued over the American Dream, and on and on until we finally got what we wanted... BUT we are just PART OF A COUNTY. Ocean Pines is part of a county too....only we don't get anything that I can see and it is not because we are not a municipality. It is because we are not organized and don't ASK! It is time to stop whining and start DOING! |
