Could we maybe try a new approach to those social media websites? Just ignore them. Don't republish anything they publish. It seems to me that any criticism directed towards them has had little to no real effect. I guess that 90% of the Ocean Pines community (including me) have little interest in these electronic rags
I understand your point. However: I suspect you would be surprised at the numbers for the two major Facebook board politics sites. ROC has 4,400 members. Get Involved 1,800 members. Of course, ROC spent a fair amount of money on full-page ads in some local papers. Get Involved is more influential at this point, even with fewer members. Get Involved administrator is Esther Diller, a past member of the OPA board and wife of board member Stuart Lakernick. Get Involved was very influential a few years ago in supporting Rick Farr in his court case against OPA and subsequent election to the board after the court found in his favor. I would credit Get Involved with the volcanic political explosion producing the Farr victory, and resultant board majority that put Doug Parks (big Get Involved supporter) back as OPA president and the subsequent elections that produced the current 6-1 board majority. YMMV. Get Involved is the Facebook site that has allowed the referenced personal vulgarity attack to remain public. I cannot understand why Esther allows that post to remain public. |
