There will never be a "Happy Memorial Day".
ROC’s Sherrie Clifford just wrote an editorial expressing her opinion that Memorial Day is a “happy day.“ Reminds me of President Obama during a press conference spoke about Memorial Day and the people it honored and said something to the effect many of whom may be in this room. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: A truly inspiring and sad narrative of the life of one "grunt" in Vietnam. A war fought by those who believed "My Country. Right or Wrong. My Country.". I have known some who have told me that they pulled any string they could find to avoid serving. And they point to the post mortem that it may not have been a war worth fighting. Maybe yes, maybe no but when your country calls, you should go. That's your responsibility. The greater responsibility lies on the shoulders of those who ask you to go. I would argue that they often did not live up to their responsibility as fully as did "the grunts". There will never be a "Happy Memorial Day". |
