There is zero malicious intent when someone says “Happy Memorial Day.” I find it slightly irritating, sure, , but have long since stopped correcting people when they get terminology, nomenclature, etc. incorrect.
If someone wished me a ”somber, reflective Memorial Day,” I would likely raise an eyebrow despite that being technically correct. I usually say “have a good holiday” as that is vague enough that it covers every base I need covered. “Sensitivity to other people's feelings is certainly not silly.” Shockingly woke of you, Mr. Moran. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Silly?? And you with prior service. It's much like wishing Happy Yom Kippur !! to a Jewish person or Happy Good Friday !! to a Christian. It demonstrates a certain level of sensitivity to the things that are important to a certain group of people. Sensitivity to other people's feelings is certainly not silly. |
