There is not the required 5' space and taking the needed space out of the median which was suggested is neither practical or cost effective.
And the five feet must be in addition to parking allowance! |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: It would appear that a legal bike path on Ocean Parkway is virtually impossible to put in place. In fact, the current lined area along the Parkway at this time, if promoted by OPA as a legal bike path, could be problematic should an injury occur. I agree. Too many times I have seen residents promoting an issue they favor without taking the time to see if it is practical or cost effective. Several years ago, as one who bikes pretty much every day, [In a limited area on Northside of about 3.5 miles] I also thought a bike path would be nice. I took some time to check out the minimum standards of 5' width and came to the realization it would not be practical. There is not the required 5' space and taking the needed space out of the median which was suggested is neither practical or cost effective. |
