OPA by-laws and Resolution M-06 for handling elections and referendums make for interesting reading.
The by-laws say board candidates must file their application with the Board Secretary, John Latham, no later than May 10. May 10 this year is a Saturday. So... May 12?? Currently, there are no obvious or declared candidates other than incumbents Steve Jacobs, Stuart Lakernick, and Monica Rakowski. Materials for the election package must be delivered to the board Secretary by close of business on the first Friday in July. Having a board election and a referendum on the new fire house will require two separate ballots in the election package, and presumably two separate links for INTERNET voting. If a board candidate wishes to request a recount, the candidate must do so prior to the Annual meeting. That can only be accomplished if the candidates know the election results prior to the Annual Meeting (as is currently the case, but Election Committee chair Ransdell wants to change that). Any recount will be completed in "open session" where any association member can attend. Presumably a "Teams" video (or other such INTERNET connection, to Pittsburgh is ok to comply with an "open session" meeting. Resolution M-06 was passed in April 2024. Review History on the document indicates it was reviewed by GM John Viola and Bylaws & Resoliutions Committee chair Lora Pangratz, but not by "Legal." |
