Instead of enforcing well established DR’s let’s go after moss on roofs and leaves on the ground! This is nonsense It feels like some board members truly want to change the character of the community…while we are cutting down the trees how about adding sidewalks and street lights!!! | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Earlier today, the OPA Facebook page shared a synopsis of the previous ARC Chair’s presentation on leaf violations. The statement included this: “Middleton’s presentation continued to point out the extensive research work in the Guideline update, including aligning with the State guidelines regarding ground cover, which includes not just leaves but pine needles and other brush, all of which Ocean Pines has been citing properties for as yard debris, that are also considered a severe fire hazard.” Yes, Ocean Pines has been citing homeowners for pine needles. This is astonishing, especially considering I have a folder of photos showing Ocean Pines itself using pine needles as mulch. This raises serious questions: Is Ocean Pines selectively enforcing these guidelines to target homeowners, or does it plan to hire an army of inspectors to act as meticulous lawn police? It is no wonder homeowners are clear cutting their yards, placing gravel on entire yards and/or asphalting driveways, all of which make flooding worse. We all want a beautiful community, but natural landscaping can be both aesthetically pleasing and safe. Based on some Directors’ public comments, it seems the Board believes residents want it to act as a beautification task force. In reality, residents want action on neglected, run-down properties—not violations for mulching with mower-shredded leaves or pine needles, or for placing reflectors at the end of driveways for safety. |
