It's certainly a mix of things from complete negligence to holding down multiple jobs. Some of these kids will thrive in a structured environment. It takes a strong teacher to get through to them in a meaningful way, but with increased class sizes, that makes it a near impossibility for any teacher. Just for reference if anyone else is reading. Maryland ranks 3rd to 5th in the nation depending on your metrics. What Worcester county is achieving is something to be proud of. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: In your list of factors, you really should capitalize the low parental involvement line. Actually, I think that statement is a euphemism for "no" parental involvement. If there is a married couple involved which I'd guess is less than 50%, that couple is often more a couple of one, plus maybe a grandmother. And you failed to list addiction problems which you may argue is subsumed in several of the factors but is important enough that it deserves single billing. Tragic |
