As long as it isn't going to cost OP homeowners anything I say go for it but, BUT, if it's going to cost OPA one thin dime then it deserves a much deeper look! | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: There are questions as to how much protection the project gives to Osprey Point given the created "bay" remains completely open to direct northeast winds. There was no mention of how $10 million could be spent in 45 days to buy and haul in sand and stone and the equipment to move it out into the bay as dumped via what looks like a sole-source contract. You were upset over OPA building a tiki bar for $170,000 or so with what you said was a lack of bids. This is $10 million yet you have expressed no concerns. The projected project cost increased $2 million in less than a year. At the meeting last May, the cost was never mentioned by those giving the presentation. At the end, I asked, "how much?" $8 million was the response, producing audible gasps from those present. Also, there was little or no discussion of alternative, perhaps less expensive ways of protecting the area. This area needs protection but surely there is not enough factual information to decide if the approach suggested is the only viable, least expensive option to provide needed protection. The goal here is protection, not producing sandy beaches. The design may be the best approach, but this community does not have the information to make informed decisions. For $10 million a Devil's Advocate is needed. |
