Obviously the Board majority wasn't concerned about covering increased expenses as they went against the advice of committees and operations and did not increase membership fees.
Well, association members did not elect committee members to set policy for OPA. During peak summer time, the amount of short term renters getting that discount is significant. I will ask you what I suggested to Ken who also mentioned this. Quantify via actual stats what "significant" means. Then multiply that factual number by $5 to see how much more money would potentially be collected. In the grand scheme, it probably is not much. If you require a membership card to attend a board meeting, it makes sense to require it to get the discount. Well, in my opinion, the comparison between what people pay to use a PUBLIC pool and who can attend a private meeting of an HOA's Board of Directors makes no sense. You are into pure politics. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Obviously the Board majority wasn't concerned about covering increased expenses as they went against the advice of committees and operations and did not increase membership fees. John Viola has said numerous times that last Summer we hit the sweet spot with pool closures. The fact is that until school let's out, Mumfords pool and Swim and Racquet many days operate at a loss with very few customers. Operating only one of these pools at a time the entire month of June and at the end of August actually is a cost savings. As for requiring membership cards to get the pool resident rate, I've said it numerous times. During peak summer time, the amount of short term renters getting that discount is significant. If you require a membership card to attend a board meeting, it makes sense to require it to get the discount. It would be easy to allow family members visiting to get the discount by allowing the cardholder to give the family members the card for the day. OPA could charge a significant lost/replacement card fee to discourage misuse by renters. |
