Nate, run an add that OPA is paying 25$ for lifeguards and see how many people are lined up!
I saw on the news this evening that Ocean City has announced what they considered an "historic" change in Life Guard pay. May not have this exact but sign on bonus was doubled to $1,000 and overtime pay was increased to time and a half making that about $28/hr. I believe they said it would cost the town about $80,000. Will be interesting to hear whether that helps the shortage. As an aside my Grandson was head of Liife Guards in Bethany Beach. He used to tell me they never had any problems hiring guards as they just looked at what OC was paying and paid more. Bethany, unlike OC has 2 guards to every stand but of course has a much smaller beach. Will be interested to see how OCs pay rate change affects the other Beaches. |
