Probably about that time but its days as a straight prop airplane were numbered because it had a hard time keeping up with the B47 jets. The majority were given to the Guard who completed a program to attach to jet engines outboard of the props.

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: When did the KC135 replace the KC97?  I'm thinking around the time of the B52 coming on line?
