Susan, thanks for you comments. In general, I agree.
I am not sure there was any cost saving with INTERNET voting. The ballot package must still be mailed. Return postage cost is trivial. Also, keep in mind a full manual recount of paper ballots only took about three hours. It may have been less time than the scan operation that was off by 1000 or so votes. The uninformed keep saying there was nothing wrong with the INTERNET vote count. That might be true, but OPA has no way whatsoever to verify any INTERNET vote count. None. |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Were exclusive electronic ballots a cost-savings measure to reduce postal expense, it'd make sense to offer this alternative to reduce human manpower IF it produced verifiable results. Given neither of those two, exclusive paper ballots seems the way to go until electronic balloting has a proven audit trail AND the expense can be offset by savings within a 5 year window. My two cents... |
