Hi Bill, From the git go, we all understood the original DRs meant "recreational trailers"...RVs. We could NOT have them and Boise gave us a campground where we could keep them. That is likely the only part of the DR's that most of us really knew in the early 70's. It would be a long time before everyone had water and sewer, so the rest of them were "down the road"...so to speak. They did not want to place to look like a shantytown. It was a logical decision and people obeyed it. After all, Ocean Pines was mostly a Campground Community for a number of years. Unless the DRs have been changed, box trailers really have nothing to do with item. Perhaps if there were aestheic RULES about boats and box trailers ..including a BAN of blue tarps from Ocean Pines....and some size restrictions on both it would be more fair. What is the exact size limit on trucks? What if the box trailer was of a "reasonable"? size. Giant boats covered with tarps that sit and sit are HIDEOUS.....yet a small box trailer that could be painted the same color of the house or that is screened by hedges is not allowed. I really don't care about things that are not glaringly ugly. If it is not "in your face"...who cares? ( I may be sensitive to the issue because of my "invisible fence" that absolutely NO ONE could see unless they were on top of it and touching it.) It is about AESTHETICS. If Marty's box trailer were put back further into his back yard, screened somewhat, and painted the color of his house .....whose ox is gored??? I am sure that most people would rather see that sight than some of the boats that look like the Queen Mary sitting in yards year after years. Anyone who has STUFF of any kind covered with a tarp should look around the place and choose a color tarp that is the color of the surroundings. The darn things come in many colors that blend in with the natural habitat. I guess it does not seem fair to me that some hideous thing only used for pleasure, is deemed more important than something that is important to a family's livelihood. There has been so much discussion back and forth on this issue that I have forgotten if the DRs were ever changed to include box trailers. Please remind me. Thanks, Nancy |

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: Nancy, You do understand that Marty is doing this just to prove a point about trailers. And in order to prove that point, he is willing to force the Association to take an action that will impact all of us in litigation costs. While you might make light of the situation by suggesting camouflage and he may respond with blue tarps, this is not funny, nor cute. It is a serious challenge to the ability of the Association to enforce its regulations. Should OPA simply ignore Marty's actions and allow the trailer to sit there with no violation issued? And allow similar trailers anywhere and everywhere? Only unmarked box trailers or can they be plastered with advertising? Can it have windows, if so it is a travel trailer? And if we allow travel trailers, why not recreation vehicles? Bill Z |
